Direct Sales & How to Own it

As someone who doesn’t really like to communicate with people (in person or online), I have definitely dabbled in my fair share of direct sales.  Some were successful; others I flat out sucked and wasted my “initial investment”.  If you are interested in this source of income; or have already dedicated some of your hard earned money into thriving to be a successful business owner, keep reading.

What are direct sales?

In some cases, you hear about this big opportunity for you to work from home, or earn extra income and you get incentives may it be bonuses or free products.  Most of the time you don’t have to keep up with inventory; you just sale the products.
Direct sales is marketing and selling products to consumers for a company. Whether you advertise through your social media, go door-to-door, or host parties.
Examples of direct sales companies are Younique, ItWorks! Mary Kay Cosmetics, Advocare, etc.

Networking

After you sign up and pay your initial investment the first thing you want to do is tell everybody.  Networking is a major part of how you become successful in your business.  You use the relationship you already have established (your mom, sister, friend, cousin) and you build new ones from you social media, friends of friends, co-workers and so on.  These people are going to be your business’s life support.  Why?  They will help you get the word out.  They will give your products reviews; they will host parties to get you more and more customers.  You need them.  They don’t need you.

Building your list

When I first started my businesses, (yes businesses), I looked at who my consumers would be. Think about who would love to try your products and what you are selling?  First thing to do is make a list of your circle. (This can be your mom, sister, cousin, best friend, aunt, etc).  It doesn’t matter how long your list is, but you have to start somewhere.

Once you have your list created start contacting them.  Call them up on the phone and tell them about how excited you are and what your favorite products are so far (if you’ve had a chance to try them).  If you have no idea then tell them which ones you are eager to get your hands on and try.  Your enthusiasm is contagious and will make them want to see what you have going on.

Be Honest

Honesty really is the best policy.  Don’t over sale your products.  Be genuine.  Remember, you need them, they don’t need you.  If you sell weight loss supplements, make sure they work.  Do your research and even try them yourself if you like so you actually have an idea about what to expect.  Don’t just think about the sale; think about the impression you are going to leave with that person.  Make them want to come back for more.

Set yourself up for success

Success is not going to happen overnight.  You will not be able to quit your full time job right off the bat (unless you don’t have one of course).  It will take dedication and hard work to be successful.  Make sure it is something you are absolutely passionate about.  You will need to live, breathe, dream about your business.  Work on building your empire every single day.
